Toronto city council approves new tax, fee
After months of controversy, a new land transfer tax and a vehicle registration fee passed easily at Toronto city council tonight. The land transfer tax, expected to bring in $155 million next year and $240 million in subsequent years, was approved in a 26-19 vote. The land transfer tax comes to $3,725 on a $400,000 home.
